Sabbath Day

Sabbath Day, the Day of the Creator

Citizens find national holidays meaningful, but those from other countries view them as ordinary days. Similarly, God’s people cherish the Sabbath, commemorating the Creator’s rest after creation.

"... so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy …”

Gen 2:1–3

While some see the Sabbath as just an Old Testament law, God’s blessing on the Sabbath predates the law (Ex 20:8–11). As such, even Jesus observed it in the New Testament as an example to the believers.

"He [Jesus] went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom ..."

According to the calendar, dictionary, and Bible (Mk 16:1–2), the original Sabbath falls on Saturday. It was not until 321 A.D. under the authority of Roman Emperor Constantine that Sunday was established as a day of worship to the sun god.

Since creation, God promised to sanctify His people through the Sabbath, providing a day to recognize Him properly. On this day, unintentional sins against God are cleansed, and the hearts of His people are renewed. It is a precious day of blessing and spiritual rest that only those who keep can realize and experience.
