The 2025 Passover Blood Drive in Newport News

On April 27, 2025, the Church of God in Newport News hosted its annual blood drive for the Passover. This marked the 1608th blood drive organized by the Church of God worldwide. With a warm and welcoming atmosphere, members of the community came together not only to donate blood but also to enjoy a barbecue lunch, learn about the Church’s volunteer activities, and spend time with neighbors and friends.

The event collected 87 pints of blood—a meaningful contribution during a time when the United States is facing a serious blood shortage. Every two seconds, someone in the country needs a blood transfusion. This ongoing need has put pressure on hospitals, especially those serving military personnel, where O-positive and O-negative blood levels have dropped to dangerously low levels.

Saving Lives Through Compassion

The Church of God’s efforts helped meet this urgent need. Their commitment was recognized through a special Proclamation awarded by Mayor Philip Jones, honoring their positive impact on the community. Through this event, the Church opened its doors not just to donors, but to high officials and local residents, sharing both practical support and a message of hope.

One volunteer expressed: “Volunteering at the blood drive reminded me how powerful small acts of kindness can be. Seeing so many people come together to give something so vital—it was inspiring to be a part of it.”

As part of the event, the Church shared the meaning of the New Covenant Passover, the feast of God in which Jesus Christ gave His blood to give mankind eternal life. By saving lives through blood donation and sharing the love of God, the World Mission Society Church of God continues its mission—to care for both the body and the soul.
