Newport News Blood Drive Save Lives During Critical Shortage

Community Blood Drive in Newport News

The World Mission Society Church of God in Newport News hosted a blood drive with over 100 volunteers.
The event supported local hospitals during a critical blood shortage. On March 15, 2026, the Church partnered with the American Red Cross. Community members, both new and experienced, took part in giving blood to save lives.

This was the 1,823rd Passover Blood Drive for the Church of God, bringing the community together for a life-saving impact. Volunteers donated 66 pints of blood which can help save nearly 200 lives. Donations also supported hospitals facing limited blood supplies.

Community Effort and Awareness

These donations helped support local hospitals during a period of limited blood supply. Volunteers included families, first-time and returning blood donors, reflecting strong community involvement. By partnering with the American Red Cross, the Church of God helped raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations.

Stephen Christian also added, “So often, issues divide us—but events like this bring us together. And when we unite, we can save more lives.”

Ashley Granner echoed that sentiment: “Seeing organizations like the World Mission Society Church of God come together for this cause is truly beautiful. Together, we can make a greater impact and help those who need it most.”

With hospitals nationwide continuing to face critical blood shortages—some with supplies in the single digits—the urgency of events like this cannot be overstated. Just one pint of blood can save up to three lives, making every donation invaluable.

A Welcoming Experience with a Lasting Impact

Visitors were equally moved, not only by the cause but by the welcoming and uplifting atmosphere.

“Everyone is so kind and open—my kids felt so welcomed,” said visitor Alisha Williams. “I have a niece who survived cancer, and seeing the blood transfusions she needed…events like this are what make survival possible.”

More than 100 volunteers contributed to this meaningful effort. Blood donations play a vital role in saving lives and supporting the health of our communities. Hospitals rely on generous donors to provide blood for patients undergoing surgery, cancer treatment, emergency care, and other critical needs. Each donation can help multiple people, making every donor an essential part of a life-saving network. By giving blood, volunteers directly strengthen their community and offer hope to those in urgent need.
